Our mission is to equip our community with home energy independence and reliable back up storage, breaking the chains of big energy. Leading with transparency and integrity, our master electrician, Kim, works with customers every step of the way, from pre-site, to bid, to build, and beyond.

Our Story

Much like the Rubicon Trail in the beautiful Sierra Nevada mountains, finding the path to start Rubicon Electric has been an epic journey, and there’s still so much to explore.

Kim Welch, owner/founder and master electrician, stumbled into green energy like an adventurer happening upon a new trail out in the wild. After a decade in computer diagnostics & repair and then construction, Kim unknowingly had gained the perfect skill set to excel in Solar PV: a perfect mix of technical and mechanical.

He quickly worked his way from an installer to a lead, and then to manager, and ultimately found his true passion as an electrician. Determined to hone his ability, Kim set out and obtained his C10 electrical contractor’s license. He then founded Rubicon Electric and began his grand adventure alongside his super cool wife and their even cooler son.

Kim brings 12 years of solar experience and counting. His favorite past-time is 4-wheeling the Rubicon trail in his custom rig with his favorite little sidekick.
